April: Organic Mysticism—Ritual, Reason, and the Work of the Ruach
April 5, 12, 19, and 26, 2022—Tuesdays @ 1 p.m. ET
Much has been said regarding the supposed dichotomy between “earthly” and “heavenly” things. This is often pictured as a “tug of war” between the work of the Spirit and ritual performance, or more delicately as an emphasis on rationale versus true spirituality. But doesn’t scripture highly value the world that God has created? How then might we bring the Holy One’s values and insights into the social-moral plane he created for us to inhabit? In these interactive sessions, we will discuss models for understanding the organic relationship between the soul and the spirit, worldly wisdom and heavenly insights, virtue ethics, and ritual performance. We will also consider the practice of Mussar to mediate these values and grow in our love and obedience to God.
