H501 History of Judaism (MJS & MRS)

This course surveys Jewish history from the call of Abraham to the modern era. The class is divided into segments main time periods: the biblical period (Tanakh), the 2nd Temple Period, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and Enlightenment, and modernity. Specific issues related to Israel’s role as the People of God, the early Jewish believers in Yeshua, the birth of Rabbinic Judaism and Christianity and the rupture between the two, the crusades, Medieval literature and false Messiahs of the Middle Ages, the Holocaust followed by the  establishment of the State of Israel, and the rise of Messianic Judaism.
